Deciding on whether or not to adopt a rescue dog can be daunting. There are so many different things to consider about adopting and it can sometimes be difficult to recognize how rewarding adoption is. That's why we're here to remind you of 5 reasons you should adopt a rescue dog.

1. Adoption opens up very limited kennel space for other dogs in need.

There is an enormous amount of dogs suffering from homelessness, neglect, abuse, and many are at risk of euthanasia in shelters. Rescues do their best to fight against these issues by giving these dogs shelter, treatment, and homes for them. However, space can be a very limiting factor. If there are no kennels open, then rescues are unable to save more dogs.

2. You help fight against the cycle of animal overpopulation.

Each year, about 400,000 dogs across the USA are euthanized because of a lack of space in shelters. When the dog population increases and more dogs land in shelters with no space, more dogs are euthanized. The unfortunate part about this cycle is that there are more dogs purchased from breeders than there are dogs adopted from shelters/rescues. APPA reported that breeder purchases accounted for the majority of dog adoptions at 34%, while adoptions from rescues/shelters accounted for only 23%.

Given that most dog rescues are completely full, it is very likely that you will find the perfect dog for you, and it's guaranteed that you're doing something incredibly helpful at the same time.

3. You gain great resources to help you with your new dog.

Most dog rescues are kept afloat by experienced dog people. They handle the dogs, they know dog behavior, and may know your dogs personality. This equips them with many tools to help you with your adoption process. Adoption can be worrisome, but with the help of your rescue, you will be able to find the perfect dog for you, and enjoy them.

4. You have the option of getting an older dog.

You may find that adopting an older dog fits your lifestyle a bit better than getting a young dog, or even a puppy. Adopters seeking a calmer, steadier activity level should consider adopting an adult, or senior dog. They may even come with a few tricks!

5. Rescues are much more cost effective.

Purchasing a dog from a breeder can cost an incredible amount of money and most of the them require further vetting that you will also have to pay for out of pocket! Alternatively, you can adopt a dog from a rescue that is already spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, at a fraction of the cost. Many rescues will also provide useful supplies to adopters at the time of adoption.

CAMO Rescue's adoption fees generally range between $0-$500 - a world of difference compared to breeder pricing.
